I have never been much of a dog person in general, but my friend’s dachshund Jules was the best exception ever. The two of them were devoted to each other; one afternoon a few years ago, we were playing Scrabble, and Jules wanted company. I love her pleading expression. We first met Jules last September, and she was as exceptional a model pet as my cat was, so we’ll probably see her again.
